Talk Program on "Nepal and Japan - 50 Years of Frienship and Mutual Cooperation"

To mark the 50th Anniversary of Nepal-Japan Diplomatic Relationship, Hokkaido University
Nepalese Students' Association (HUNSA) jointly with Japan Nepal Society (Hokkaido Branch)
organized a talk program on "Nepal and Japan - 50 Years of Friendship and Mutual
Understanding" at the Alpine Club, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan.

Coordinator of the organizing committee, Dr. Pitambar Gautam, highlighted about the program
and introduced the guests and guest speakers.

Guest speaker, Professor Hisao Ando, a well known personality among the Nepalese, who is
also a JICA expert, visiting Professor and consultant in Nepal shared his experiences about
Nepal in his talk entitled "An Experimental Study of Cultural Interchange between Japan and
Nepal". Prof. Ando has considerably contributed for the geographical aspects of Nepal and
more.

The next speaker, a Nepalese student at Wakhok University, Wakkanai, Japan, Mr. Bishnu
Gautam, who is also an IT expert, shared about the situation of technical education and
human resourses and their involvement and importance in Japan.

Dr. Kazumori Arita from Japan Nepal Society also shared his experiences about the remote
situation of Nepal via a video show.

Chief guest of the program, Dr. Sumikoshi Sako shared his opinion about the importance of
these two countries for mutual benefits. Dr. Pitambar Gautam finally summarized the program.

Prior to this, Dr. Sanjay Acharya, a HUNSA member, highlighted about the relationship
between the two countries and welcomed all the participants on behalf of HUNSA and Japan
Nepal Society.

The program was followed by a friendly Nepali style dinner.

In addition to this talk program, HUNSA is also organizing a joint discussion program about
Nepal with local NGO 'SAPANA' on Mahanawami, October 1 and entertainment program with
friendly dinner on the occassion of Tika ceremony on October 2. HUNSA is also unveiling its
biannual publication 'Hokudai Bisauni' as a special issue dedicated to this Golden Jubilee
celebration.

Interaction Program on Mahanavami, October 1

Sapporo based local NGO 'SAPANA' jointly with Hokkaido University Nepalese Students' Association (HUNSA) organized an interteraction program to mark the Golden Jubilee of Nepal-Japan Diplomatic Relationship taking the opportunity of Mahanavami. Three students from Hokkaido University namely Mr. Subesh Ghimire, Mr. Bijay Giri and Mr. Saseem Poudel gave short talks on different subjects.

At the beginning, Mr. Hiroshi Miura, the chairman of SAPANA, introduced Nepalese students to the audience. He highlighted on the activities of SAPANA on Nepal this year. Starting the talk, Mr. Subesh Ghimire gave a brief synopsis of the current situation of Nepal. He explained about the recently changed political situation of the country and the possibilities of improvement in near future.

Next speaker, Mr. Bijay Giri, President of HUNSA, gave a brief report on the efforts of sending wheelchairs to Nepal. According to him, 11 wheelchairs have already been delivered to Nepal since the initiation of HUNSA with the support of Nepalese students from different universities of Japan and Japanese travellers. He also informed about a good number of wheelchairs to be despatched very soon. He pointed out the problems with the delivery, long term run of this work and also urged for possible supports from the participants.

The third speaker, Mr. Saseem Poudel explained the audience about the importance of Dashain in Hindu community and the different aspects of the festival. He introduced about the 15 days celebration period and the significance of Tika.

Most of the audience being Japanese, raised their queries to the speakers. Finally, the program ended up with Tea and Nepalese snack.

TIKA Ceremony Amidst Golden Jubilee Specials

 

Amidst the Golden Jubilee of Nepal-Japan Diplomatic Relationship, Hokkaido University Nepalese Students’ Association (HUNSA) organized Dashain Special program on 2nd October (the very day of Vijaya Dashami). Taking this opportunity, HUNSA also conducted other programs dedicated to the 50th Anniversary of Nepal-Japan Diplomatic Relations jointly with Japan-Nepal society (Hokkaido branch) and Hokkaido Nepal Sagarmatha Society (HONESS).

The program began with a welcome speech by Dr. Megh Raj Bhandari. He extended best wishes to all participants on the occasion of Bada Dashain on behalf of HUNSA. Next, the regular biannual publication of HUNSA, ‘Hokudai Bisauni’ was unveiled by the President of Japan-Nepal Society (Hokkaido branch) Mr. Takamatsu. The current issue, i.e. 8th issue of Hokudai Bisauni has been dedicated to the 50th year of Japan-Nepal Diplomatic Relations as a special issue. Chief Editor of Hokudai Bisauni-Special Issue Dr. Sanjay Giri and Editor Mr. Saseem Paudel explained the participants about significance of this special issue. The issue contains interviews with Dr. Kedar Bhakta Mathema (former Ambassador of Nepal to Japan) and H.E. Mr. Tsutomu HIraoka (incumbent Ambassador of Japan to Nepal) along with some invited articles from concerned bodies and personalities and articles by the members of HUNSA.

On the same occasion, HUNSA felicitated Dr. Kazunori Arita, retired Professor from Hokkaido University, for his invaluable contributions in the field of Himlaya research. Mr. Subesh Ghimire introduced Dr Arita with his brief biography and research carried out in Nepal.

 The program was followed by Tika Ceremony, Nepali dance, songs and Dashain favorite dinner.
